As occupational therapists, you are well aware of issues of confidentiality of clients as per the OT Australia Code of Ethics as well as the confidentiality requirements of your particular organization.

The same level of confidentiality also applies to students undertaking clinical education at your facility. The universities require staff and those managing students to protect the confidentiality of these students. This protection relates to their academic and clinical performance, university grades and any personal matters raised in the course of communications with students.

Students' progress and performance should only be discussed with the necessary people in the clinical setting and/or with the university clinical placement manager or fieldwork education staff. The university staff will be able to provide support and guidance as required, and will consult with their local department head as needed.
